Frequently Asked Questions

3. I’m a single parent. How would I go about
buying a home?

Answer: The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of:

  • Race or color
  • National origin
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians, pregnant women and people securing custody of children under 18)
  • Disability (Physical or Mental)

Become familiar with the process, pick a good real estate broker, and possibly pre-qualify for a loan. Contact housing counseling agencies in your area to discuss your options. Also, consider buying a HUD home.
