Eric Blankenstein joined Ginnie Mae in November 2019 from HUD’s Office of General Counsel, where he worked on issues related to Ginnie Mae. In his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, he supports the Principal Executive Vice President in overseeing all aspects of business and policy development related to Ginnie Mae’s daily operations.
Prior to joining HUD, Mr. Blankenstein worked at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as the Policy Associate Director in the Division of Supervision, Enforcement, and Fair Lending. In that role he managed the Bureau’s supervision and enforcement of Federal consumer financial laws, including laws related to the origination of mortgages, and advised the Director of the Bureau on various legal and policy issues. Previously, Mr. Blankenstein worked as an attorney in private practice, where he focused on complex civil litigation, primarily representing financial institutions. Mr. Blankenstein has extensive experience litigating disputes related to private label mortgage-backed securities.
Mr. Blankenstein is graduate of the University of Virginia, where he earned his undergraduate degree in finance and his masters degree in history, as well as his law degree. Mr. Blankenstein lives in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife and children.
